Maricar Balagtas is the first Asian woman to win the Miss Globe International title in 2001 in Istanbul, Turkey.
Miss Globe International and Miss Globe Pageant are both founded by Charlie See but with different organizers.
Maricar Balagtas is pageant veteran from Plaridel, Bulacan. She won Bb. Bulakan 2000 and after winning the provincial pageant, beauty maker Rodgil Flores (now Kagandahang Flores boss) encouraged her to join
Binibining Pilipinas.
It took Maricar three times to win the right to represent the Philippines in Miss Universe.
In 2000, 17-year-old Maricar was Miss Close Up Smile but unplaced. In 2001, she bagged Best in Swimsuit award and eventually hailed as second runner-up. During that year also, Bb. Pilipinas head Stella Marquez-Araneta handpicked Maricar to represent the Philippines for
Miss Globe International Pageant in Istanbul, Turkey. She won Best in National Costume award and named as the first Asian delegate to win the international pageant.
After her stint in Turkey, she flew to Lebanon in 2002 for Model of the World search where she was named as one of the five semifinalists and won the Best in Evening Gown.
This 5'8 Bulakenya tried for the 3rd time in Binibining Pilipinas and finally won the title of Miss Universe Philippines in 2004.
She represented the Philippines in the 2004 Miss Universe pageant in Quito, Ecuador but unplaced.
