The last time France won in Miss Universe was in 1953 through Christiane Martel, the second Miss Universe winner. Last 2015, Miss France Flora Coquerel placed third runner-up. Will Iris Mittenaere be the second French Miss Universe winner?

23 year old Iris Mittenaere was born North of France in a town called Lille. Mittenaere has kept herself busy the last 5 years by pursuing her degree in Dental Surgery. Besides dental school, Mittenaere has always been fond of extreme sports, travelling the world and cooking new French dishes. Fresh, funny and caring is how she would best describe herself. She enjoys making others happy, especially when volunteering at Bienvenue-Tongasoa and Les Bonnes Fées. Mittenaere is honored to be representing France in the upcoming Miss Universe competition. Miss Dominican Republic Universe 2016 Sal Garcia took to her  Instagram account said she needs to raise money to go to the Philippines for Miss Universe 2016. One of the tallest candidates at the 65th Miss Universe needs our help  because some of her sponsors backed out. Due to recent massive rains and flooding in Dominican Republic last year, all local government resources have been directed to this cause and now her participation in the Miss Universe pageant is in peril. Due to the mass media bullying she suffered during the beginning of her reign their funding effort to solicit assistance in the private sector has come to a decisive halt.

Dear fellow Dominican and To Whom It May Concern:
For almost 63 years the Dominican Republic has sent a delegate to represent our country in the Miss Universe Pageant. Also during these long decades our country has survived many devastations, many of them cause by natural disasters. Yet always under the worst of circumstances we found strength in each other. As you all might know our beautiful island was declared a disaster zone due to the devastating torrential rains and floodings during the recent months of november and december 2016. Understandably, all local government resources has been directed to this cause and it is with great sadness I have to announce that my participation in the Miss Universe 2016 is in peril.
Though the Dominican government has been able to assist some Miss Universe delegates in the past, on this ocation, I regret to inform that the Dominican government has been unable to assist in any of the costs associated with my integration into the pageant such as travel expenses, wardrobe, and many others. Also, due to the mass media bullying I suffered during the beginning of my reign our funding effort to solicit assistance in the private sector has come to a decisive halt. Despite the fact that I have been physically and mentally trained in all aspects of the competition ( and I do feel genuinely ready to represent our country with distinction ) the above two events are seriously threatening my integration in the 2016 Miss Universe Contest to be held in Manila, Philippines on January 29th of 2017. It is therefor possible that for the first time in 60 years the Dominican Republic will not be able to participate in this prestigious event.
Knowing how important this representation is to the Dominican people, I respectfully request your support whether you are a Dominican living in the Island or living abroad. We are resourceful people and if every Dominican might help with just one dollar, or more, I am certain that united we can garner the resources needed to successfully integrate the participation of our country into the pageant and knows...we might just bring the crown. A united nation can achieve anything. Needless to say this is an urgent matter. Activities for the Miss Universe 2016 will start as early as January 13th and 14th 2017. Any contribution you can provide will be greatly appreciated whether this assistance might be humble o grand. This account has been authorized by me and The Miss Dominican Republic Universe Organization.
Please remember that each time one of our representatives participates in the Miss Universe pageant she ceases to be a common citizen and becomes the nation. I ask for your support and for all of us to be this nation. A nation that is united in love, help and support.

At least eight Miss Universe delegates  will join the festivity of Sinulog Grand Parade on Jan. 15.

The Sinulog-Santo Niño Festival is an annual cultural and religious festival held on the third Sunday of January in Cebu City, and is the center of the Santo Niño Catholic celebrations in the Philippines.

The candidates will ride on the float of Okada Manila, their official residence while they are in country.

The plan was to allow at least eight candidates to ride on the float which would be Okada Manila’s entry to the Sinulog Grand Parade.

However, Sinulog organizers could not say who among the candidates would be in the float.

Caris Tiivel, Miss Universe Australia's national costume masterpiece was inspired by Australia's great natural wonder, Great Barrier Reef. The designer, Steph Audino, drawn inspiration from the beautiful colours and textures found by over 600 types of coral and the countless species. It's beauty and colour is mesmerizing so she has captured this in the creation with the different fabrics, shells and hand beading in the jumpsuit and over 100m of fabric in the skirt to represent the ocean waves. It is also a great opportunity to raise awareness and join the fight with many other around the globe to save the Great Barrier Reef.

Caris will represent the land down under at the 65th Miss Universe in Manila, Philippines.

The Tourism Department released the initial calendar of events for the Miss Universe candidates:

• Jan.7 - Two to three candidates will be arriving in Manila.
• Jan.13 - Bulk arrivals of the candidates.
• Jan.14 - Boracay photoshoot.
• Jan.15 - Vigan photoshoot and Filipino Terno Fashion show with designer Albert Andrada.
• Jan.16 - Governor's Ball with Chavit Singson in Manila.
• Jan.17 - Cebu (Swimsuit competition).
• Jan.18 - Baguio photoshoot. 
• Jan.19 - Candidates are split into three groups: Batangas, Iloilo and Davao.
• Jan.20 - Dinner event hosted by Solar Entertainment ay Manila Hotel. 
• Jan.21 - Fashion show at SMX Manila.
• Jan.22 - Food Festival at Manila Hotel with Pia Wurtzbach and Women Empowerment Night. 
• Jan.23 - Courtesy call to Malacañang Palace with Pres.Rodrigo Duterte and National Gift Auction. 
• Jan.24 - National Costume Festival.
• Jan.25 and onwards - The candidates will have run-throughs that will end with dress rehearsals at SMX Manila on January 29.

Miss Honduras 2016 Sirey Moran national costume. It is inspired by the National flower of Honduras, Orquidea Rhyncholaelia digbyana designed by the famous Venezuelan designer, Douglas Tapia.

Miss Universe Malaysia 2016 Kiran Jassal showed off her beautiful national costume and evening gown that she will be worn at the 65th Miss Universe in Manila, Philippines. Her national costume was inspired by the Twin Towers of Petronas designed by Rizman Ruzaini.

The Petronas Towers, also known as the Petronas Twin Towers (Malay: Menara Petronas, or Menara Berkembar Petronas), are twin skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. According to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH)'s official definition and ranking, they were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004 and remain the tallest twin towers in the world. The buildings are a landmark of Kuala Lumpur, along with nearby Kuala Lumpur Tower.

The 65th edition of Miss Universe will be held in Manila, Philippines on January 30, 2017.
