10 Things You Didn't Know about MISS USA 2017 Kára McCullough

Kara McCullough was crowned the 2017 Miss USA winner on Sunday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, May 14, 2017. She will now go on to represent the United States in the 66th edition of Miss Universe pageant.

When Miss USA 2017 Miss District of Columbia Kára McCullough, was asked about the definition of feminism, she said that she prefers the term “equalism”. “I don’t want to call myself a feminist. Women, we are just as equal as men, especially in the workplace,” she said.

Here are 10 things we learned about Kara McCullough:

1. Kara was born in Naples, Italy, but she has also lived in Sicily, Japan, South Korea and Hawaii.
2. She graduated from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry with a specialization in Radiochemistry.
3. She is a scientist at the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission
4. She has a community outreach program called Science Exploration for Kids.
5. She can teach you how to balance a chemical equation in 5 minutes.
6. Kara's father is a retired United States Navy chief petty Officer.
7.  Kara collects socks with groovy designs.
8. She loves cooking and her favorite dish to cook is Pistachio Pesto pasta.
9. Miss District of Colombia 2017 was her 5th pageant.
10. There hasn't been back-to-back state winners since 1989. This is the first time D.C has won back to back.

Plus! Kara is the first runner-up of Deshauna Barbers during Miss District of Columbia 2016.
