Miss Costa Rica 2016's First runner-up Elena Correa was appointed to represent Costa Rica in the 2017 Miss Universe pageant after the national director announced not to hold national pageant this year. Formal crowning of Correa as Miss Universe Costa Rica 2017 will be held in August.
René Picado, the president of Teletica, has confirmed that the TV network will not be producing the Miss Costa Rica pageant for 2017 due to complications in its broadcast schedule for the second half of the year.
26-year-old Elena was Carolina Rodriguez's first runner-up during Miss Costa Rica 2016.
