Amidst death threat to some candidates, Miss Iraq 2017 will be held this year during a televised event in Baghdad. According to pageant portal Missosology, women from across federal Iraq and Kurdistan region will be competing for the national title for the chance to represent Iraq at Miss World and/or Miss Universe.
Last year, Shaymaa Qasim was given the opportunity by Miss Universe Org. to represent Iraq in the 65th edition of the pageant. However, her participation was withdrawn due to a fallout between her and the organizers & Ministry of Culture, which supervises the event.
